Science Assignments

11/3 We begin the next investigation - Physical Properties and Physical Changes in Solids
  • Make a new page with title (same as investigation)
  • Copy lab sheet to your notebook
  • Complete investigation

11/2 Today we discuss our experiments and the science behind dissolving. Your next homework assignment is to finish your lab report. It is due on Friday 11/6. This is what your report should include:
  • Your Question
  • Hypothesis - A complete hypothesis includes your claim and the evidence (previous knowledge, research) to support your claim.
  • Test set up
  • Observations
  • Conclusions

Classwork -- Read the background material on dissolving. Pair up with your table partner and answer these questions in your notebook.
  • What atoms is a water molecule made of? Draw a water molecule an show its polarity.
  • Why are water molecules attracted to each other?
  • Why and how is water able to dissolve sucrose?
  • Challenge - What is the difference between dissolving and dissociation?

10/20
By the end of this class you will have edited and/or updated you inquiry question. This is the first paragraph of what will be a report of your first inquiry.
You will also have three questions to research.
Your homework tonight
• add the chemical composition and a picture of the molecules involved in your experiment to your notebook
10/19
  • Modify your Inquiry Question as needed.
  • Determine at least three areas that you will research. Add these research questions to your Noteshare notebook.
  • You need to be working on these things:
  • Begin collecting research information and pictures. Add this to your notebook.
  • Write up your procedure.
  • Make your data tables and example graphs.
  • After you have done your research, write up your prediction. Click here for a template.
